In the 1990s in Eastern Europe, first public and later political movements emerged, which led to the independence of many nations and countries throughout the region. These national political movements tore down the Iron Curtain that had divided Eastern and Western Europe for 50 years and provided the peoples under the Soviet influence with a possibility to decide their own destiny.
